Since its independence in 1956 – and thanks to the wisdom of the former leader President Habib Bourguiba – Tunisia has focused its recovery strategy on the implementation of an education that can generate a solid base of human capital that is able to meet the changing needs of a developing nation. In just a few years, the education of children aged 6 to 16 years has become compulsory and free – this small North African country allocates more than 25 percent of its state budget to education and teaching.
