Wind power could supply 20% of U.S. electricity and generate hundreds of thousands of new jobs per year – unless Congress kills the wind tax credit. Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has been outspoken in deriding President Obama’s efforts to give wind and solar power the prominence they deserve on America’s energy agenda. “In place of real energy, Obama has focused on an imaginary world where government-subsidized windmills and solar panels could power the economy,” he wrote in a March editorial in Columbus Dispatch. more[...]
Fuel poverty is a growing problem throughout Europe. As it varies widely from one country to another, each country has its own definition specific to its context and history. Electricity companies are involving themselves in public schemes in compliance with regulatory requirements and in action taken on their own initiative. more[...]

Today more than half the world’s population lives in cities, which emit 80 percent of all greenhouse gases and use 75 percent of energy – figures rising. It is thus with the cities that we must start if we want to manage population growth, increasing energy demand and climate change. Many solutions are already available, including environmentally compatible energy supply, highly efficient building, transportation and water supply systems and affordable financial models. These improve climate protection, increase the security of supply, enhance the quality of life and reduce costs. For world wide success, however, cooperation on a global basis is needed, for example in United Nations programs. more[...]

Armacell as a global producer of flexible technical insulation materials stands for innovative sustainable solutions. Energy efficiency, which is at the core of our business, is pursued in many different ways. A regularly conducted Life Cycle Assessment reveals that the energy required to manufacture Armacell’s best-known brand Armaflex has been “recovered” after just 50 days. Further activities include working in international committees for energy efficiency, developing sustainable product innovations and using recycled materials as well as by-products instead of primary raw materials in the production. more[...]
How can we integrate the UN Global Compact into our day-to-day business with measurable results?
